The princess and the pea

A prince is determined to marry a real princess. He travels around the world to find one, but he is never sure whether those he meets are genuine princesses, so he returns home disappointed. On a stormy night, a young woman, soaked to the skin, knocks on the castle gate and claims to be a real princess. The queen, skeptical of her identity, decides to test her secretly. She places a small pea on the bed frame, then piles twenty mattresses and twenty featherbeds on top of it for the woman to sleep on. The next morning, the woman complains that she barely slept all night, as there was something hard under the bed that left her aching all over. The royal family is convinced that she is a real princess, for only a real princess could be so delicate. In the end, the prince marries her, and the pea is even put in a museum for display.
